Marin County is a California Syringe Access Law Program participant under California Senate Bill (SB) 41. This means you can buy syringes from a pharmacy without a prescription. Remember this if you need syringes when The Spahr Center is closed! Always use clean needles!!
Pharmacies are allowed to sell syringes to adults without a prescription. Pharmacies are not required to register to do this, nor to check IDs, nor to add names to a logbook.
If you are 18 years of age and older, you can purchase and possess syringes for personal use when acquired from an authorized source. You may also possess an unlimited number of discarded syringes if they are in a Sharps container.
Pharmacists, physicians and syringe exchange programs (SEPs) are authorized sources of nonprescription syringes for disease prevention purposes. The Spahr Center operates an authorized SEP. SB 41 also requires pharmacies and SEPs that offer non-prescription syringe sales to provide options for safe syringe disposal.
